Churches Praying for Churches

WHAT?

These are volatile times we live in as churches.  The world is shifting and many churches are being caught in the crunch of change and uncertainty.  As a result, a prayer initiative has begun to stand together against the “wiles of the devil.”  The charge is simply churches praying for sister churches in a concerted, cohesive, unified, and a powerful prayer campaign to change the atmosphere over the churches on the South Plains and beyond.

James 5:17-18 explains that when Elijah prayed that it literally controlled the “atmosphere” over the land.  The purpose of this prayer initiative is to pray for the “atmosphere” over each church to be impacted for the King’s glory.

WHY?

Because Jesus said, “My house shall be a house of prayer.”  Matthew 21:13

Because Jesus spoke a parable to them “that men always ought to pray and not lose heart” Luke 18:1.

Hope and joyful expectancy are tied to prayer.

Because Jesus promised,  “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”  Mark 11:24

HOW?

Churches spending a minimum of 1% of their joint prayer time each week specifically praying for specific churches in The Association.  At the beginning of each week, an email will be sent to a designated person that will contain two churches and their pastor’s name to pray for that week.  It will also contain any special prayer request that have been received.  The name of the two churches can also be obtained on the LABA website.

WHO?

Churches who choose to participate by sending a request to the LABA office with a point person’s  name, email address, and phone number.

RESULT?

“God’s Kingdom come and His will be done.”   Scripture explains that Lucifer’s number one tactic since the fall has been to keep the children of God in disunity.  Psalm 133 explains why, “in their unity the Lord commands blessings.”  God’s commanded blessing is meant to make the earth resemble heaven.  Thus, “on earth as it is in heaven” becomes reality.

James 5:13-17 NIV

“Is any one of you in trouble?  He should pray. Is anyone happy?  Let him sing songs of praise.  Is any one of you sick?  He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up.  If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.  Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

This was a concerted, cohesive, unified, and powerful prayer campaign to change the atmosphere over the Lubbock area.  These churches were willing to spend 1% of their church prayer life praying for another church.

They received an email each Monday with the two churches and pastors name to pray for that week.  Also contained in that email was any specific prayer requests they may have had.

The process began January 4, 2016, and ended on December 26, 2016.  It consisted of 52 weeks of continued prayer for the 106 Lubbock Area Baptist Churches!

If your church would like to participate, please call the LABA office, 806.791.4442
